Geneva Andrews is a 2008 transplant to Dayton from Missouri farm country, though dating to the 1700’s her ancestors spent several generations in Powell Valley near Cumberland Gap before migrating west.
Her education background includes a BA in English Lit from the University of Missouri in 1967, and post graduate studies scattered over the next 30 years in Education, Life Sciences and Graphic Art / Communication Design. She has worked as editorial assistant on a needlework magazine, advertising media buyer, and medical technician in a hospital chemistry lab, before settling into a career in professional custom photographic printing.
In 1997 she and husband Pete moved aboard a 40’ trawler and spent 10 years exploring eastern rivers, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Rideau Canal in Canada. As they cruised they kept an eye to relocating away from the cold winters in NW Missouri. From the Tennessee River the landscape between Chattanooga and Knoxville looked most attractive and they were able to find a house outside Dayton near water and forest – and not too far from the awesome Laurel Snow Pocket Wilderness and other trails.
Geneva currently serves as president of Four Seasons Garden Club and secretary of District III of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, and she belongs to the local arts league. Health issues keep her off the trails now but she hopes to make a contribution to the Cumberland Trail through membership in the Friends group.
